Who are you?
I am Katy Torres.
When do you play on House 559 Music?
Sunday biweekly 6-8 pm.
Describe your music style? What’s different about you compared to other DJs?
My current preferred music style it’s a blend of Deep house, Tech house, Melodic House and Techno. I also play Nu disco, Soulful, Funky house and House. It’s conceptual, harmonic and smooth.
Don’t think it’s me who has to reply to that question. I compare myself with previous myself))
What attracted you to play at House 559 Music?
The freedom. Appreciate the opportunity to express myself.
Who are your favourite DJ/Producers?
At the moment it’s HRRSN, Pattern Drama, Andhim, Super Flu, Marek Hemmann, Acid Pauli, Oliver Schories, Tube and Berger, Nils Penner, Nick Curly, Yamil…
Where do you find music inspiration?
In nature and water.
What is one track that never gets old for you, no matter how many times you hear it?
Well, for me it’s not just one track, I got a playlist of tracks that never get old, like Pleasurekraft – Tarantula (Original Mix), Luca Agnelli – Ah (Pirupa Remix), Tensnake – Coma Cat (Round Table Knights Remix), Lusine – Two Dots (Nic Fanciulli Remix) , Doctor Kucho And Funky Trukerz -Lots More Loving (original Mix) and a lot more.
How did u get into djing/ what’s your musical background?
No real musical education, just love.
Remember, in the high school I had that kinda dream to play music in the local bar… Then much later in 2011, I was working at the night club and had friends DJs, so they taught me to play, few months of practice before opening hours and I was mixing fairly good.
What do you usually start with when preparing for a set?
I’m thinking about the idea – how I want to make people feel by listening to me, what I want to say with my set.
What are your main challenges as a DJ?
Endless search of perfect match.
What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ? As an attendee?
Can’t say about single night, but had a nice residency that I was happy with – it was Mercury lounge at Four Seasons Jumeirah in Dubai.
As attendee remember Picnic Electronic in Dubai with Claptone as a headliner, I even got his white glove at the end )
What is one mistake you see a lot of DJs making? / What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
You cannot make all the people happy with what you play, so better make yourself happy and the audience will feel it.
What’s next for you? Where can we find you? (upcoming gigs)
Around the world 🙂
