Who are you?
JB

When do you play on House 559 Music?
Biweekly Thursdays 4-6

Describe your music style? What’s different about you compared to other DJs?
I’d say my style is a simplistic but eclectic blend of house. What makes me different is that I draw inspiration from all different types of music and I try to incorporate that with my house sound.

What attracted you to play at House 559 Music?
I played as a guest firstly and I just had to get involved. It’s a honour to play alongside some such talented residents.

Who are your favourite DJ/Producers?
My favourite producers are Bicep and Ross from Friends currently. For my favourite DJ I’d have to say Jackmaster although I’ve been listening to a lot of Dixon lately.

Where do you find music inspiration?
I try and find inspiration from all types of music but I also draw inspiration from the older house producers such as Omar S and Carl Craig.

What is one track that never gets old for you, no matter how many times you hear it?
Only love can break your heart (masters at work mix)

How did u get into djing/ what’s your musical background?
I played guitar when I was younger but I got into Djing when I was about 13.

What do you usually start with when preparing for a set?
I try to prepare a folder of the kind of stuff I want to play, but I generally just pick my first track beforehand and go from there.

What are your main challenges as a DJ?
I’d say the hardest thing is never being completely happy with my sound. I guess this also keeps me inspired to keep working at it though.

What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ? As an attendee?
I couldn’t really say as a DJ but as an attendee I’d probably say going to Printworks.

What is one mistake you see a lot of DJs making? / What advice would you give to
aspiring djs?
One mistake that I think some DJ’s make is that they can become so caught up with everything like social media they forget about what it’s about and that’s the music. For
aspiring DJ’s it’s the same thing if you love the music then that’s the most important thing.

What’s next for you? Where can we find you? (upcoming gigs)
I’ve got a few unannounced things I’m working on so watch this space.

Your favourite mix? (of yourself)
I don’t really listen back to my own mixes but I’be gotta say my most recent 559 show was a belter.
